German Food, yum!

German Food, yum!

This fabulous little restaurant serves excellent German food in the metropolis of Walburg, TX.  We enjoyed wiener schnitzel, sauerbraten, wurst, meatballs. spätzle Pronunciation and more!  They have a nice buffet with most of the items on the menu, which goes for about $15/person.  Unfortunately, that is about the same price as most of the items on the menu, so I’m guessing their regulars rarely venture to order off the menu.

The place was packed out quickly on a Friday night, and we left right before the live music started (around 7:30).  The restaurant is laid out VERY casually, almost a ‘picnic’ theme.  The shelves are adorned with steins, and various German memorabilia.

Larry recommended a pint of Spaten, which I enjoyed immensly.

The only notable disappointment was the chicken Rachel had ordered, which had arrived not fully cooked (raw in center), so we asked them to put it back on the grill for a couple minutes.  Half an hour passes, and our waitress is no where to be found.  Larry finally got up and hunted down a waitress and asked her to find out about the chicken.  She comes back out and says it’ll be a few more minutes.   I’m guessing they took it back and set it down and forgot about it.  I’m not sure what was going on with our waitress, or why she was no where to be found, but poor Rachel got the short end of the stick. Then to add insult to injury, it would appear that the potatoes were seasoned with something non-gluten free, because she was sick the rest of the weekend.

So, in summation..  If you’re hunkering for some good German food (or beer!) , don’t have any allergies, and prefer to get up to get your own food, then you should check out Walburg Restaurant.
