As you all know I started out this school year homeschooling Ty…. Today, Ty started school at a nearby charter school. If any of you are wondering… Yes! I did throw myself a party this morning! I am so excited for him to be at school, largly because he is so happy. He is excited to be at school surrounded by peers in an environment that is challenging to his growing brain!

I have some thoughts on home schooling (now that I am an expert, listen real hard!)

1. Homeschooling is one of the single hardest things I have tried to do as a Mama.  I am not kidding, I applaud the amazing parents who have the brains and stamina to keep at it.

2. Homeschooling for me was lonely… FOR THE MAMA!!! I am not kidding, I have never felt more isolated. To be a great homeschooling parent you give up a large part of your daily (social) life. I don’t care what anyone says it is not okay to teach and talk on the phone… Totally not cool.

3. If you hate housework, cooking, or laundry then you should totally homeschool… At least for me something had to give, my sons education or the house. I was choosing school but getting irritated as the days went on and the house started looking like it should be on TLC. Get my drift? I am not a hoarder! I swear.

If  by chance you are a Mama who happens to have kids in traditional school but have friends who are homeschooling Mama’s, I highly suggest loving on them ALOT. Maybe a little note or dropping by lunch for her and her kids. Remember she won’t have time to visit but she will never forget that you fed her… Tummy and Spirit.

So here I am a Homeschooling Mama drop out. Things I learned about me,

I am NOT a great teacher. God made me for something else. I am an awesome help mate, I am awesome at helping with homework. I am not awesome at teaching a concept.

I still don’t like math. This is okay we were not all made to be CPA’S

Art is my Favorite subject… It is just apart of me… I love it!

Reading is awesome if you don’t have to. It is so important to read stuff you love… Anything!

Housework can wait… GASP! I know but my kids are growing up so fast!

Dinner can and has come from a box or a bag or delivery… that’s okay sometimes

I have a willing Spirit… My spirit it is willing…

Things I learned about my Son…

He like to wear his socks inside out all the time…This is a laundry challenge…

He hums or sings all day long… Drives me crazy but it soothes him or something.

He is the worlds fastest reader… even faster than me! I am amazed.

English is his favorite subject… And he is totally amazing at it!

Math is hard but if given the chance, he Rocks!

He needs constant affirmation. I have become a great cheerleader.

He needs physical exercise… A lot.  Kinda like a puppy.

He eats a lot! No wonder kids come home hungry!

He is a self learner.

My son is amazing. Through lots of prayer we made both the choice to home school and now the choice to join this charter school. Whatever education choice you make for your kids is personal between you and God. I am sure that The Lord wants for Ty way more than I can ever dream. And I have very lofty dreams for my kids. My hope is that at the end of each day, Mama’s you know that the choice you made is the right one because it was made on your knees. My hope is that we will, as Mama’s, hold each other up and cheer one another along. This is a long haul… 12 years of our babies life’s they spend on education we choose for them. I want my kids to look back on their education and know we did what was best for them. As hard as it is to admitting failure, realizing it 12 years from now would be so much harder.

So all in all I am so thankful for the last 18 weeks. I am thankful that I tried, I am thankful that we still love each other.  I am Thankful that we came across a school that fits most of our educational dreams for our kids.

Homeschooling Mama’s you rock my socks… I am in awe of your grace. As my grandma would say…

Keep on keeping on
