Boy Speeds Down Mountain

By Josh Snodgrass

In a death defying feat, Ty Andretti, age 10, raced straight down a Texas sized mountain beside the famed RMH raceway in Dallas, TX today.   Ty is the long lost nephew to Mario Andretti‘s dog walker.  While Andretti wasn’t his original surname, Ty was able to convince the otherwise staunch courts of San Francisco to allow him to change his name, at a ginger age of 5.

Ty Andretti Makes His Move

Compelled by his not so direct relation to a racing family dynasty, Ty attempted what no other tricycle rider has ever attempted; to race down RMH mountain and cross the raceway at a speed exceeding 2 fps.  After a long trek to the top, and with the encouragement of some racing friends, Ty began to peddle and less than a quarter way down the mountain he was at full speed.  Experts estimate he came just shy of 3 fps.  Lookers on stopped breathing as it looked like Ty was about to do the impossible.  As he reached the bottom of the mountain, the silence was broken by shrieking gasps and hollering from the spectators.  The front wheel of the Radio Flyer Deluxe Trike had began to wobble violently, and Ty lost control as the trike flipped over, and rolled underneath his body.  Fortunately, Ty broke the fall with his face, and after an agonizing 2 seconds of stillness, Ty stood up and waived to the crowd, letting them know that he was OK.

Ty is expected to make a full recovery, and is undergoing Wii therapy at this very moment.  It is unclear whether Ty will make another attempt or not.  This reporter, for one, hopes that he does not.  Some things are just too dangerous and should not be attempted, I don’t have the stomach for this kind of risk, and if he decides to make another attempt, I won’t be there to watch next time.

Josh Snodgrass has been a journalist for RFB for over 11 years, and has reported on RMH recreational activities in Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and Dallas.  Now based in Austin, he is senior editor for RFB, a leader in reporting Rogers Family News online.  Before joining RFB, he didn’t do anything particularly interesting, so its a good thing he landed this job.

Kindness

True friendship is seen through the heart ~ not through the eyes.

I have been so blessed by the kindness of your all’s words. I really want you all to know that it lifts my spirit and gives me an extra measure at the right time, each time, I read words from one of you. I want you to know we feel your love from miles away. Thank you for your prayers support and love.

Minnie or “laffy taffy” as we are loving calling her. Is doing amazing !

It is so fun we are coming up with so many nicknames. I will share them with you as the days go on! If you you come up with loving nicknames please share!

Santa has visited the hospital three times this last week.  It is amazing he knows exactly what Minnie likes.  Really each of the Santa’s have brought her gifts that she loved!  I did not give a heads up! I promise! Josh is starting to believe again.  So if you all wondered what the big guy really did all month.. he is “hanging out ” with minnie and her halo gang! Ty is with his aunt Tiff, her boys and Great Uncle D going on a train ride to the north pole tonight. It is a poler express train ride!  And then staying at a fancy hotel. The Lord always seems to find ways to bless my kids.  I just love how he is their daddy too and wants to bless their life. Know matter what circumstance you are in. The Lord can and will find ways to put joy and blessings into your life. This is the key my friend you have to be willing to look and accept it.

Smiling Halo!

~Smiles are the next best thing to halos.~

This photo was taken by the most amazing and talented photographer…. Nope not me!! My most loved Uncle Darrel he truly is amazing.

Minnie is doing VERY well. She said tonight that having a halo is fun! I am sure that is what all angels say! She is running around this hospital like she already owns the place. Last night she was on the news! She knows all the patients names, how old they are and what grade they are in. She has made friends with the child life girls… They are the people who have all the craft stuff. And has plans on decorating the fish guys cart. She has found JOY… She is walking around singing constantly

I’ve Got the Joy In My Heart

I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart

Where?

Down in my heart!

Where?

Down in my heart!

I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart

Down in my heart to stay

She even sang this going into surgery the other day… One more thing she told her surgeon about Peter in the bible the other day! You all would have been so proud of her. She told him that being in her halo is the closest she would ever get to being like Peter! Then she had to explain who he was, and she did amazing.

Now, reality I have had one mommy break down when I accidentally pulled the back of her hair. I did this when I was putting her bi-pap mask on and she screamed out in pain. We both cried a really good cry, I think we both just needed the cry. I told her that I was so sorry that all of this was new to me too. “still did not help that I pulled her stinken hair” but she had grace with me.

Prayer requests, for our prayer warriors.

~She is not eating very well. A few bites hear and there. So if you remember please pray that her appetite increase.

~Also a few months ago she had her g-tube removed.  The skin where it was is having a hard time healing. It would be amazing if it would close up the doctors do not want a opening near the incision that they are going to make for her up coming surgery. PRAY PRAY PRAY this wound heals fast!

~She is going to have some tests done next week. Please pray that they all go AWESOME! When I know exactly what test they are I will let you know.

I get to wash her hair in the am, it will be the first time. It will also be the first time I really brush her hair. I am so nervous.  Wish me luck!
